THE CHRIS KUSH INTERVIEW

What artist or artists are you most inspired by?

The artists that most inspire me vary widely.  I grew up listening to Sting and the police as well as Tupac and No Doubt. They’re are a lot of artist I admire and honestly to many to list, I just love to study music as a whole.

What is your favorite show you've performed in so far in your career and why?

My second year at SXSW I was out one night and ended up on the second floor of packed bar/club. They had a stage and I performed, the crowd was electric and it was one of the first moments that made me feel like everything I’m working towards was possible.

Do you have anything coming up that you can share in terms of music or shows?

I’m currently working on my next project Smoke Over Sleep 2 as well as a music video ;)

How would you describe your sound and style to someone who's never heard your music before?

Alternative hip hop for the sad stoner.

You performed alongside Lil Bo Weep recently. What was working with her like?

Winona is a great person, I really appreciate her giving me the opportunity to perform along side her. From the moment we might she’s always been supportive of my music and responsive to my ideas!

What are some of your interests outside of music?

Outside of music I’m a huge geek, I love video games, anime and manga. Ask me about any of those and you can watch me geek out live.

How would you describe your creative process when making a song?

When I create I try to be as organic as possible. Usually early in the morning or late at night I’ll roll a blunt, find some beats, and get my voice memo ready. Most of the time I hear or feel something the first time I listen to an instrumental and I try to capture that.

You recently traveled across country to Texas do a series of shows. Tell us about this experience.

Texas is a beautiful state and the people there are so receptive to upcoming artist. SXSW isn’t what it use to be, the bigger companies like fader have moved off from the general space that usually encompasses the event. That being said the shows are hit and miss and I can see that SXSW may be on the decline.

Anything else you'd like to share?

To anyone who’s a fan or to those who may be reading this and hearing about me for the first time, I have so much in store for you and I can’t wait to show y’all what’s next. <3
