THE SINCERE INTERVIEW

What’s your story?
Born in the 215, the only true calling I’ve had since a child was music. I grew up a Section 8 baby til’ I was old enough to realize what my life could be headed for if I didn’t change my own environment. Music has been around during my upbringing for as long as I can remember. I played violin as a youngin. I was 12 years old when I first sang for a crowd at my middle school talent show. Being able to see people’s faces change because of my voice was mesmerizing. Fast forwarding to September 2018, I sat down and told myself... “It’s time to get serious”. And that’s when the “Sincere” sound was created!
What does the local music community mean to you?
Before I discovered these hidden gems across philly, I was falling away from mainstream music due to it’s staleness. Once I started making music I noticed others making music, and i found something special. There’s a certain feeling of raw pain that’s felt from the artists of Philly. The hungriness in every bar & the soul in every run. Everyone has a story, some start different, but they all have the same hopes for their ending. We all wanna get out.
Who are some of your biggest inspirations, both locally and mainstream?
My biggest inspirations have to be Musiq Soulchild, The weeknd, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, J.I.D and Justin Timberlake. My local inspiration would be Kur, Fifflo, Lujitzu, and Wezu Falcon.
Most people are under the assumption that this isn’t gonna work. That this life that I’m chasing after is a 1 in a million chance. But it’s not like that at all. I’m the 1 out of a million that won’t take no for an answer. I’m the one that has to work a million times harder than the rest to be the 1 that I know I can be. It’s not about chance, it’s about determination. I wanna show people from my town who lost hope, that there’s still a light at the end, whether it be a light at the end of a backwood, or the BSL. We manifest what we think of.
Tell us about your most recently dropped project, or an upcoming project.
I dropped a short EP, a 3 song tape, including “Sin Jaun,”called “It’s 2:15.” The title is self explanatory, but most people think it represents the time of day I dropped. In reality it represents the 215, for the people of philly, it’s always 2:15. The songs are all different in their own ways, like most of the music I create. They all have the same story, my love towards women.
Are there any artists you enjoy collaborating with the most? Are there any artists, local or mainstream, that you would love to collab with?
My favorite collaborations so far have been with pabLoTheDentiSt(Pyscho & Slither), Lujitzu, Meenmoney(Opioid) , C.A.S.E, and fifflo in their entirety. I’ve worked with others but for the most part these guys have a tenacity that’s unbeatable. If I could have any collab, I would say locally T$an, Eli1000, and Ruffin are a few amazing artists I’d love to work with. Mainstream It’d be lit to work on a song with Kur, J.I.D, Tyler, The Creator, Gucci Mane, or Rihanna.
My favorite project i’ve released would probably be 9601. We live in an age where people have kinda weaned away from actual singing and more of the sing-rap has been accepted. This song was deadass me in falsetto for 3 minutes. All I can say is that all my friends play this song specifically when they’re about to get some cheeks.
Who else in our community do you think is Next Up?
I think that there’s a ton of talent in my city. There’s Lujistzu, OxFlacko, BryGreatah, T$AN, Fifflo, And many more Talented artists that are on the rise.
What’s next for you?
In this moment? I’m about to hop in the shower. In the future, I’m working on releasing my first EP, solo. I wanna show how versatile I really am. Maybe I’ll do some shows. You’ll just have to stay tuned and follow me on ig @sincerecnis for more updates.
